QPAC Extends Shrek the Musical Season By 1 Week

Due to the detection of a more prevalent strain of COVID-19 in the city, the Queensland Government initiated a three-day lockdown of the Greater Brisbane Area a couple of weeks back. This lockdown started on the day that the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) were due to commence their season of Shrek the Musical in the Lyric Theatre.

It is probable that many who were booked early in the season where performances were cancelled or otherwise had their capacity reduced to 50% may not be able to see the show. But for those who have been eager to see the musical but worried about capacity, QPAC has been successful in securing an additional week citing “popular demand”. The season will now conclude on 14 February 2021, with tickets available HERE.

This announcement comes as, due to low detection levels in the community, theatres across the Greater Brisbane area have been able to re-open to 100% capacity. According to the announcement by QPAC, “masks will not be required however patrons may choose to wear masks when they feel social distancing cannot be achieved”. To help prevent even the smallest chance of spread, in my opinion, you should absolutely wear a mask from the moment you enter the venue until you are safely in your car headed home. In our “new normal”, any small action could potentially leave people sick or everyone in lockdown, so everyone should do their small part.
